Interestingly after visiting several different Tesco superstores, an empty cardboard box where the Cathedral City plant-based cheese should have sat was all that was found.
It leads the discussion topic of why the block?
In each of the several stores we visited, the grated and the slices where still available to buy.
What is so magical about the block and this particular block of cheese?
Could it be that Cathedral city and their classic cheddar blocks of cheese have been a staple to the British diet for cheese sandwiches & cheese on toast?
Could it be the hype?
Could it be the fact that you can cut your own slices and grate it, from the same product?
Could it be it's easily one of the most recognisable dairy cheeses you see in British supermarkets and easily take up the majority of shelf space in the chilled sections?
We believe it's a combination of all of these.
Whichever it seems to be the driving factor, Cathedral City you'll be needing to send out more plant-based cheese blocks to Tesco stores throughout the UK. We can only see this as a positive.
