In this review, we take a look at and a taste of the Nomaggio Cheddar Peddler vegan cheese.

Appearance
When it comes to that classic yellow block of cheese, this has it and more.
It's not from the supermarket, this is a handmade artisanal vegan cheese, that's got that bold iconic colour and square block shape, it's look has got ploughman's lunch written all over it!

The little indentations on the cheese are marks from the exterior sleeve it comes freshly sealed in. Above you can see what it looks like when it has been cut in to.
Aroma
It's got that slightly mature cheddar scent, its lovely.

Flavour
Has that slightly pungent mature flavour, that's a little buttery, a little rich but is wonderfully bold.
It's stands it's ground and whether you pair it with a caramelised onion chutney (we hear Nomaggio do their own delicious chutney), pickle or a smearing of jam, this is a cheese that gives you that presence on your palette too.

It's very easy to eat, in-fact once trying this cheese and even grilling it, it's been enjoyed in numerous sandwiches.
It's a cheese that gives you 220 grams of continued munching! It didn't last long once it had been opened.
Texture
This cheese has a semi-firm texture to it, it slices with that extra bit of crumble to it which again feels particularly satisfying and authentic.

You can also grate this cheese and this means you can add to anything you desire. It grates very well making it easy to add to any dish or sandwich.
Summary
Well, what can we say about this vegan cheese, we loved it.
Creating a vegan cheddar cheese is rather difficult to do well, but Nomaggio have nailed it.
There are a number of really good supermarket cheddar style cheese's that are plant-based however in terms of an authentic handmade cheddar that gives you the texture and flavours that you crave, a umami, savoury heaven, crumbly. classically yellow.
